Day 05 - Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos

There has been an Alcázar or Palace on this site since the times of the Visigoths, followed by the Umayyad and Abbasid Caliphates and then the independent Caliphate of Córdoba. When the Christians took control of Córdoba in the 13th century they expanded the palace and added extensive gardens, baths, and a large library.

In the following century Ferdinand and Isabella used it as a base for the Spanish Inquisition. At the same time the Christian monarchs and the church were persecuting people they were meeting with Christopher Columbus as he made plans to set sail for the Americas.

Check out this good lookin' guy!
